Colin Benn, Violinist
Colin Benn holds a Bachelor’s of Music from the Juilliard School, where he studied with Toby Appel. In 2003, he played a season with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra in Rio de Janeiro as well as recording sessions for CDs and films with artists Milton Nascimento, Wagner Tiso, and the Rio Strings. He played the 2004 season with the Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra and participated in the orchestra’s concert tour of Latin America. He returned to the United States to pursue further studies with Mark Lakirovich. Before joining Music Haven, he played in regional opera orchestras in New York and for the two summers in Opera Festival in Florence, Italy. He recently performed with Ensemble Tomscha at Bargemusic in New York City.
Colin Benn is a Resident Violist with Music Haven. As the permanent quartet-in-residence of Music Haven, the Haven String Quartet’s mission is to integrate music and creative endeavor into community life. The quartet provides access to free music education and world-class chamber music performances to residents in New Haven’s most underserved neighborhoods.
