Deborah Freedman, Children’s Book Illustrator/Author
Deborah Freedman was an architect once-upon-a-time, but now she loves to build worlds in books. Her first picture books were tiny and hand-made over twenty years ago for her own young children, and since then she has written and illustrated Scribble, published by Knopf in 2007, Blue Chicken, Viking 2011, and The Story of Fish & Snail, Viking 2013. Her books have received multiple awards, starred reviews, and “Best Of” honors, and her work exhibited at the Society of Illustrators in New York.
Lost in the arts for as long as she can remember, Deborah majored in art history in college at Yale and studied architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She lives in a colorful house in Hamden, where she is busy drawing and painting her next book.
