Part 1: Artist-Teachers and Students (April 17 – June 6, 2015)

Part 2: Artist Who Teach: A Showcase of multimedia works featuring Caryn Azoff, Christopher A. Cozzi, Mindi Englart, Karleen Kubat and Peter Ziou (July 8- September 10, 2015)

Side by Side: Part 1 is a multimedia exhibition that showcases seven artists who teach in area high schools alongside some of their students (56 students) to create a non-hierarchal visual array of unique, quality artwork that encourages dialogue about the relationship between one’s individual and collective role as artist, teacher and student. Phil Collin’s lyrics “in learning you will teach and in teaching you will learn”- resonates with so many, forming the basis for this show.

Exhibiting teaching artists include Caryn Azoff (Hamden Hall Day School, Hamden, CT), Jessica Cuni (Choate Rosemary Hall, Wallingford, CT), Christopher A. Cozzi and Mindi Englart (Cooperative Arts and Humanities High School, New Haven, CT), Karleen Kubat and Francois Poisson (Cheshire Academy, Cheshire, CT) and Peter Ziou (Hopkins School, New Haven, CT).

These seven artists selected student artwork created as individual and in some cases, collaborative projects that range in style and approach from traditional and academic to interpretive and self-expressive. Collage and construction predominate as do self-portraiture, exploring ideas about digital humans, the future and one’s place in the world.
