Shared Resources at Perspectives…The Gallery at Whitney Center

The Arts Council presents a new art exhibit happening at Perspectives…The Gallery at Whitney Center: Shared Resources, curated by Debbie Hesse and Melanie Carr, with Technical Curator, Steven Olsen. An opening reception will take place Saturday September 19th 3-5p.m. with an artist talk at 2p.m.

Shared Resources brings together artists whose interactive and collaborative creative practices encourage closer inquiry and participation. These artists, through sound, light, movement and augmented reality offer an opportunity for audiences to engage in art that moves between physical and virtual spaces.

Highlights include (images of work attached):

Ellen Hackl Fagan, through her collaborative research- based participatory sound-color games invites playful experimentation in her computer generated games; visual responses often inspire subsequent pattern- based paintings.

Gordon Holden, in Consume Cool- displays T-shirt designs along with an iPad that takes the viewer to his shop consume cool online store where one can order his “art” creating an interesting dialogue about advertising and branding and the changing role of art.

Cynthia Beth Rubin in her prints of Hudson Valley Muddy Waters, enlarges microscopic life to emphasize the importance of maintaining healthy streams and forests. Her work uses Augmented Reality to create a deeper connection by juxtaposing the micro/macro environments.

Artists in Shared Resources include: Daniel Eugene, Ellen Hackl Fagan, Gregory P. Garvey, Gordon Holden, Luiza Kurzyna, Spencer Luckey, Cynthia Beth Rubin, and Balam Soto.


Perspectives…The Gallery at Whitney Center, a gallery exhibit in partnership with the Arts Council of Greater New Haven and Whitney Center, is located at 200 Leeder Hill Drive, Hamden. The gallery features regional artists in group and thematic shows. Hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
