September 15 – October 28, 2016

The Arts Council of Greater New Haven presents Degrees of Separation, in the Sumner McKnight Crosby Jr. Gallery. The exhibition is curated by Hayward Gatling. There will be a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 23. The works will be on view to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, September 15 to October 28, 2016 at the gallery located at The Arts Council of Greater New Haven on the second floor of 70 Audubon Street in New Haven. The gallery is free and open to the public.

Degrees of Separation brings together professional artists with artists who are exhibiting for the first time. Many of the first-timers have been working privately their whole lives, but are just now showing their work to the public. Putting one’s art into the spotlight requires tremendous courage, and the seasoned exhibitors — and their works, in a range of media — serve as anchors for those just coming into the light. The viewer is challenged to see who is new and who is not, and to note connections that might be found in materials, inspiration, narrative, and execution.” – Hayward Gatling

The show features artists Christopher Antollino, Denise Parri Bender, Lauren Clarke Caldwell, David Chorney, Ron Crowcroft, Margi Conti a.k.a. Maria Miguel, Jay Cusano, Chuck Dorris (in memoriam), Lizzette Flores, Mohamad Hafez, Violet Harlow, Kat Hosfelt, Andres Camilo Madariaga, Milagros Martinez, Pierre Merkl (Mr. Lucky), Michael Miglietta, Chris Mines, Krikko Obbott, Liz Pagano, Suzan Scott, David Sepulveda, Dee S.
