The Arts Council of Greater New Haven presents Represented, in the Sumner McKnight Crosby Jr. Gallery. The show includes paintings and mixed media works by Adam Chambers, Teresa Fortsch, Rosa Ibarra, Pierre “Mr. Luckey” Merkl, and Allen Scott. The Arts Council will host an opening reception on Thursday, March 16, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. The artwork will be on view to the public March 6 – April 14, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at the gallery located at 70 Audubon St., Second Floor, New Haven. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

About the artists:

Rosa Ibarra wishes to show “women radiating strength and imagine colors emerging from their expressions” in her paintings. Ibarra grew up in Puerto Rico and studied art at University of Massachusetts before recently moving to New Haven.

Adam Chambers uses text as a visual layer in his representative paintings to create irony and tension.

Pierre “Mr. Luckey” Merkl places people into odd, often uncomfortable settings. His conceptual figurative painting draws on his experience as a detective, his study of pre-20th century pictorial strategies, and a combination of Renaissance and abstract painting techniques.

Allen Scott, also a full-time teacher at Wexler Grant Community School, works with clay and is inspired by the writing of Maya Angelou. He hopes to “capture the beauty and the essence of the black woman in all her splendor.”

Teresa Fortsch creates abstract colleges and paintings that incorporate fragments of recognizable imagery that communicate her identity as a women.
