2016 Community Engagement Projects
From 42 applications, The Arts Council selected five creative projects to fund with small stipends ranging from $1,000 to $2,000. We’re very pleased to support these projects that will occur in different neighborhoods throughout New Haven.
This year’s exciting projects include:
Tere Luna – Experiencing Mexican Culture and Creativity Project: Dance and craft workshops for parents and children in Fair Haven, culminating in a showcase in September for Mexican Independence Day;
Douglas Bethea – Nation Drill Squad and Drum Corp Flash Mob: Students of the Nation Drill Team who represent most of the neighborhoods in New Haven, will create a flash mob at the International Festival’s Dixwell pop up festival;
Ifeanyi Awachie – Literary Happy Hour: A series of events for emerging writers to network and share in a creative environment;
Elm City Dance Collective Arts – People in Motion: Dancers will invite people to experience the power of dance through the practice and performance of making dance in the moment, also known as dance improvisation;
Community Action Collective (CAC) of Artspace New Haven, BUS STOP: Artists will encourage public participation and dialogue by displaying art on city busses, bus stops and Yale Shuttles.
