Lambert Edelmann
Lambert Edelmann
The Arts Council of Greater New Haven presents an exhibition of works by Maria Morabito and Lambert Edelmann at Gallery 195 at First Niagara Bank, 195 Church St., 4th floor, New Haven. The exhibition will be on display during bank hours from June 19 through September 14, 2012 (Mon.-Wed. 9-4, Thurs & Fri. 9-5). An artists’ reception is scheduled for Tuesday, July 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The exhibit will feature work by Maria Morabito and Lambert Edelmann. Morabito finds inspiration in biochemical processes in the brain, as well as the history of written documentation. Edelmann studies the struggle between building and decay, destruction to seek control, domination of nature by civilizations, and domination of cultures by other cultures.

Special Exhibit at United Church on the Green
Hope Is What We Do
Work by Muslim and Christian Palestinian Artists from Bethlehem

Since 1995, the Diyar Consortium, a project of Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, has used creativity, arts, and culture to show Palestinian young people that “the sky, not the Wall, is the limit.” “This window to the arts shows the culture and beauty of Palestine. The arts build cultural bridges both locally and internationally, through the exchange of experience and ideas. The work of these artists are a powerful medium in building understanding and hope in troubled times.”

Saturday, June 23 from 1-4pm at the meeting house (corner of Temple and Elm) United will host an exhibition of paintings by artists associated with the Diyar Consortium. There will be a special reception with Diyar founder and award-winning activist, the Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb at 2:30pm.

United Church on the Green, UCC is glad to partner with Bright Stars of Bethlehem to bring this show of work by young Palestinian artists to New Haven.
Cham Hendon Recent Work
June 1 - 30, 2012
Through a unique process of mixing acrylic paint and Rhoplex, artist Cham Hendon combines his mastery of color and composition with a unique mixing and pouring process to create exquisitely complex paintings on canvas. At first glance Hendon’s work appears deceivingly simple, but upon a closer examination one experiences a variety of subtle and abrupt shifts in shape, color, texture and tone.

Giampietro Gallery is located in the historic AC Gilbert Erector Set factory complex, less than 1/2 mile from interstate I-91 and about 2 miles from Union Railroad Station at 315 Peck St., New Haven, CT. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday 10am – 4pm and Saturday 11am – 4pm or by appointment. Summer Hours: July T-F 10-4 August open by appointment only. She presents at conferences worldwide and teaches in the Masters Program in Philanthropy and Development at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Her books, Keep Your Donors: The Guide to Better Communications and Stronger Relationships and Strategic Fund Development: Building Profitable Relationships That Last, are standards in the field. The CALL TO EVERYONE Project
New Haven City Librarian Christopher Korenowsky invites the public to participate in a special photography art project at the Ives (Main) Library this summer. “Those who remember the days of library catalogs will especially enjoy The CALL TO EVERYONE project which blends current digital technology and print artifacts for a palimpsest of library history,” he says. “It’s a particularly timely community project considering our celebration of the New Haven Free Public Library’s 125th anniversary this year.”

The brainchild of New Haven photographer Joanne Wilcox, The CALL TO EVERYONE involves selecting library catalog cards to act as canvasses for printed cellphone photos. Examples of project creations are currently displayed in the Library’s lobby, at 133 Elm Street, which is where the public may collect their own “card canvasses” for the project.

Wilcox will also offer three free project workshops that are suitable for individuals aged 12 and up:

Thursday, July 12, 5:30 pm: Take better photos with your cell phone
Wednesday, August 15, 5:30 pm: Printing for THE CALL TO EVERYONE
Saturday, August 18, 1 pm: Cell Phone to Card Catalog Scavenger Hunt

For more information about this project, and to register for the workshops, call the library at 203-946-8835, or visit www.thecalltoeveryone.com.
