Hamden Art League to Host Mary Giammarino

Vermont artist Mary Giammarino will be the guest artist at the Hamden Art League meeting on Tuesday, March 12th.

A plein air Impressionist painter and teacher from the Cape Cod School of Art, Mary will demonstrate her painting technique of capturing light while emphasizing and concentrating on the masses. She accomplishes this through the use of the palette knife. With a limited palette and need for few painting accessories, the artist will show those in attendance a simple base and starting point for “want to be” painters and curious art lovers.

Attendees at the March meeting will also have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for an original oil painting by Connecticut artist John Massimino. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to fund the Vera Nargi Memorial Award. The drawing for the painting will take place at the opening reception of the Goldenbells Exhibition on April 9th.

The meeting will take place on March 12, 2013 in the Social Hall of the Miller Memorial Library Senior Center, 2901 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, Connecticut. Coffee and conversation begins at 7:00 pm, followed by a brief general business meeting at 7:15 and the artist’s demo at 7:30. If the Miller Library is closed due to inclement weather, the meeting will be cancelled. For further info on Hamden Art League, visit www.hamdenartleague.com

HOPE HIGH, Class of 84′ SYNOPSIS:
Hope High: Class of 1984 is based at Cedar City High; an inner-city high school falling deeper and deeper into ruin. But the spirit of its student body is thriving within the walls of the school and the backbone of the neighborhood, Uncle Kang’s Diner. Throughout the 1983-1984 school year, we see misfits, cliques, wannabes and those struggling to keep their inner demons in the dark. But when tragedy hits, they’re all forced to work together for the greater good of the community. From the first day of school to graduation, the students of Cedar City High grow in ways they never imagine. Their story is about learning to find beauty in the worst of situations, as well as accepting the unfortunate reality that life has an ugly side.
